Triggered
by electrostatic interactions and stabilized by H bonding and Pi-Pi stackings,
Fmoc-FFpY/Iron III ions self-assembles into Beta-sheets twisted into 12 nm
diameter fibrillar helices. In full agreement with Molecular Dynamic simulations, the resulting
injectable hydrogels have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by ferroptosis, enhanced
production of reactive oxygen species due to extensive the cell entry of Iron III ions.
